How awesome would it feel to get paid to share your passion with others? Do you make handmade products for your friends & family? If so, teaching classes can be a really fun way to finance your hobby & make extra money. For crafters, artists, & makers who already own a business, teaching classes can be a rewarding way to increase profits, generate interest in your brand, & help establish you as an expert in your field. Why not capitalize on your knowledge & diversify your business through teaching others?

Since 2001, I’ve taught hundreds of classes (probably over 1,000) & collaborated with other handmade entrepreneurs to teach hundreds more. When I look back on my years of teaching, I’m reminded of all the different DIY product-making classes I’ve taught: from countless half-day group classes & multi-day boot camps at The Nova Studio, to large classes of 35 people at community colleges, to personalized 1-on-1 private lessons, to private parties… everything from ladies nights, to kids birthday parties, & even one huge bat mitzvah!

I love connecting with people so we can learn from each other & grow. I couldn’t be more excited for the chance to share my experience & wisdom about teaching with you. Join me for this unique online opportunity & discover if teaching classes would be a good way for you to generate additional income while doing something you love.

Teaching is in my blood. It’s my main purpose in life… connecting with people so we can learn from each other & grow. I couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to share my experience & wisdom about teaching with you. Join me for this brand new online class & discover how to grow your business (through teaching) to be more profitable & fulfilling. We will cover the following:

  • An easy, risk-free way to start out & test the concept
  • What I wish I had known back in 2000, when I first started out
  • Consider your target market & why you want to teach classes
  • Creating income streams from different types of teaching
  • Already have a space? Teaching yourself vs. having others teaching for you
  • Don’t already have a space? Ideas about where you can teach
  • Things to consider before opening up your own location to teach
  • Calculating the time involved in teaching (hint: it’s more than you might think)
  • Class size, length, teaching style, & teacher assistants (TAs)
  • Writing class descriptions & setting student expectations
  • The “how, when, & why” of cancelling classes
  • What type of insurance protects you when teaching
  • What to put in your handouts (consider your target market & type of classes)
  • How to attract customers/students & where to advertise/market locally & online

Please read more in the tabs below…

BEFORE THE eCLASS: A few days before the session, you’ll receive an access link and be prompted to download the web plugin to your computer (or the app, if you’re on an iPad). Manager Cassie will open the Meeting Room 15 minutes before the start time of the eClass so students have an opportunity to settle in & chat.

DURING THE eCLASS: You can either call in to receive the audio on your phone, use the speakers on your computer, or use a headset. Each eClass will have an organizer to help with any logistical matters, and a presenter who will teach the class. Since this is a live event that will be recorded, Cassie will keep track of your questions and they will be addressed towards the end, during the Q+A session. Even if all questions have been answered, the Meeting Room will remain open for students to talk with each other & the teacher.

AFTER THE eCLASS: As soon as it’s available, all attendees will receive access to the recorded Video eClass. So, if for any reason you find that you cannot attend, have to leave early, or encounter a technological glitch, you will still receive all the information (see our Live eClass Cancellation Policy in the tab above). You will always have access to this information, so you can watch it as many times as you want, at your convenience.

If you have any questions, please Contact Us.

There are several ways to attend. You can join with any device that has an internet connection (computer, tablet, or mobile device) or by calling in on a telephone. Since this is a great opportunity to connect face-to-face with the teacher & fellow students, we recommend being on a device that has a camera/webcam, so you can see US and we can see YOU during the Q+A and when you ask your questions. If you don’t have a camera/webcam, using a computer or smart phone means you can still see the teacher & some of the other students. You always have the option of turning off your webcam if you would rather not be seen. In our experience, the more participants who utilize headphones, the better the experience. Calling in on a phone would be the least preferred option since it would give you audio only.

Here’s what else you need to know:

BEFORE THE Q+A: We invite each of you to submit up to 5 questions in advance of the Q+A to us at: email (at) By sending your questions at least a day in advance, you’ll give the teacher ample time to research and prepare if necessary. You’ll receive an email with a link to the meeting and be prompted to download the program to your computer (or the app, if you’re on a mobile device).

DURING THE Q+A: You’re welcome to click on the link 5 minutes before the start time of the Q+A. After a quick hello, participants will be muted (to keep background noise to a minimum) & then un-muted one at a time to ask their questions. Once all priority questions (submitted in advance) have been answered, the teacher will open up the floor and use any time remaining for additional questions & discussion. Note: The session will be recorded for your benefit as well as for future students. If you do not wish to be recorded Contact Us in advance and we can discuss your options.

AFTER THE Q+A: As soon as it’s available, all attendees will receive a PDF transcript OR recording of the Q+A. If for any reason you find that you cannot attend, have to leave early, or encounter a technological glitch, you will still receive full access to all the information.

If you would like personalized one-on-one attention, instruction or guidance, we offer Private Lessons & Phone Consultations with many of our teachers. Contact Us for more information.

If you need to cancel your registration for a Live eClass for any reason, if you give us at least 7 days’ notice, you will receive a refund minus a $15 processing fee. If you give us less than 7 days’ notice, then there are no refunds. However, you will still get access to any related class handouts or relevant documents AND receive access to the recorded Video eClass once it becomes available. Any questions about this policy, please Contact Us before signing up.
