For those interested in a complete & all-natural facial routine, we are now offering one jam-packed day covering all 5 steps of a 100% Natural Spa-Quality Facial. This would be a great class to take if you are an aesthetician or have your own Spa or beauty business and want to create all-natural, customized products for your clientele.
Alice is happy to offer you the opportunity to use the products made during the class - with her guidance & expertise not only showing you how to craft the products, but also how to use them. This means that you can relax, be yourself, and experience the purifying, nourishing, and cleansing effects of your own freshly made spa facial products.
Here is what you will learn & experience:
STEP 1: FACIAL CLEANSING
GRAINS
A perfect replacement for soap, cleansing grains are mild, nourishing,
suitable for all skin types, and can be used daily. The grains
massage off dry and dead skin cells, gently cleanse, improve circulation
to the facial surface, and provide a nourishing "meal"
for your face. See how easy it is to create a superior cleansing
product using an inexpensive mixture of biodegradable ingredients.
STEP 2: HERBAL
FACIAL STEAMS
A facial steam is the best possible way to deep clean your pores
once or twice a month. Each of the herbs we will use is rich in
nutrients that nourish and tone the skin. The aromatic oils of
the plants are released by the heat and are absorbed by the skin.
And best of all, steaming your face over a soup pot of simmering
flowers and herbs feels so good! Come and create your own personal
facial steam!
STEP 3: FACIAL MASKS (2 types)
Facial masks are excellent for stimulating circulation to the skin
by drawing blood to the surface. Clay is very high in minerals and draws impurities out
of the skin. It promotes deep pore cleansing
and helps to heal blemishes and acne. We'll make two different types of masks in the class: The first type is a "Dry" clay mask that contains powdered materials and has the benefit of being packaged & sold without the use of synthetic preservatives (since there are no water-based ingredients that will attract mold & bacteria). We'll also discuss different types of beneficial
herbs and liquids you can mix with the dry clay mixture (at home). The second type is a fresh "Wet" mask, which is a combination of edible fruits, vegetables, grains, etc., - ingredients that nourish & feed your skin, naturally. This second (fresh) mask will need to be used within 24 hours of the class.
STEP 4: TONERS
Once your skin is cleansed, steamed & you've done a mask to remineralize the skin, a toner is used to balance, hydrate, soothe and restore elasticity to your skin. In some cases, the toner will also act as an astringent, tightening the pores. Many store-bought toners contain synthetic preservatives, but Alice will show you how to make a natural facial toner, using a variety of herbally-infused ingredients such as decoctions & tinctures as well as skin-friendly ingredients like aloe vera & honey (optional).
STEP 5: FACIAL OILS
The final step in the 5-step process is applying some sort of moisturizer or facial oil to nourish your now beautiful, clean & glowing skin! You'll make your very own customized aromatherapy face oil (also known as a "facial elixir") to soften your skin and continue to "feed" it with specialty carrier oils & essential oils, chosen specifically for your skin type.
You will need to bring a few things to be a part of the fun. Please dress casually & comfortably (avoid turtle necks!), bring a bath towel (to cover your head for the steam), a hand towel, a wash cloth, and a medium-big size salad bowl. If you wear make-up to the class, please bring either make-up remover wipes, or whatever you normally remove your makeup with. There will be a lunch break (1 hour) so bring some lunch money to dine at our local restaurants, or a bag lunch to sit outside with. Taking part in the "application" process of the products made in class is completely optional, so no pressure if you'd rather not - you can still hang out and learn as the other students are experimenting.
You will
leave this class with a 3 oz. Cleansing Grains, 3 oz. a Facial Steam, 3 oz. Powdered (dry) Clay Mask, 1 oz. Fresh (wet) Facial Mask, 4 oz. Toner, and 1 oz. Facial Oil. All products made in the class are 100%
natural and are not only great for your skin but environmentally
responsible. They are also vegetarian and contain absolutely
NO animal bi-products (except honey), perfumes, synthetic ingredients or preservatives.
ABOUT THE TEACHER:
Alice Duvernell is an artist & gilder who recently moved to the Bay Area after living in the south of France for the past 8 years. There she started researching problematic & sensitive skin types & developed an interest in the amazing virtues of essential oils & hydrosols. Her interest in culture & her studies in anthropology led her to travel in South America where she expanded her passion & awareness in native medicinal plants. During her last journey to Brazil, she set up a laboratory where she shared with the locals her techniques for making hydrosols & other cosmetics, using native plants.
